Christopher Motogawa

Chris is a results driven senior finance and operating executive with extensive experience in building, leading, and advising organizations through strategy, operational improvement initiatives, reorganizations, business integrations and refinancing activities. His 20 year career includes – business strategy development, mergers and acquisitions, turnarounds, corporate restructurings, process and performance improvement, operations management, and complex capital raising activities.

An experienced C-level executive, he quickly analyzes and identifies problem areas and develops clear, practical and functional solutions. He leads in difficult situations and makes tough decisions that deliver results and build trust. He brings stability to the most challenging situations and clearly communicates to all stakeholders. His hands-on approach and multi-industry experience, ranging from healthcare, consumer products, and marketing services to manufacturing, distribution, and transportation, are his greatest strengths.

 

His recent work includes:

 

  • Evaluating organizational readiness for growth and business strategy alignment for a $13 billion global consumer products company.

  • Identifying $20 million savings in operating expenses for a global medical device manufacturer, utilizing a bottoms-up approach to systems, process and cost analysis.

  • Implementing $8 million of profit improvement for a consumer products company thorough a pricing, cost-to-serve, and revenue leakage analysis project.

  • Assisting a $500 million consumer products company return to bank compliance by executing cost reductions, analyzing their go-to-market, and improving reporting.

  • Supporting the board of directors of a $1 billion public company to complete a $650 million restructuring, improve liquidity and identify operational improvements.

  • Identifying growth opportunities for a $3 billion retail buying group, providing business strategy, analytical support, and complete implementation services.

 

Previously, Chris was the CFO of Motor Coach Industries, Inc., a $750 million heavy-duty coach manufacturer.  There, he developed and implemented business strategies that improved liquidity, restored profitability, and captured market share. He also managed a complex multi-entity and cross-border $250 million ABL facility and more than $600 million in mezzanine debt and bonds. In September 2008, he led Motor Coach through a Chapter 11 reorganization. Later, he successfully managed a second recapitalization and sale of the entire business.

 

Chris previously worked in private equity at Jordan Industries, managing a broad range of private equity transactions in their business services group. He was responsible for all aspects of the transactions including due diligence, operational integration, and dispositions.
