Dr. Alexander A. Kulpecz

Dr. Kulpecz is a member of Quest’s Oil and Gas Advisory Board.

 

Dr. Kulpecz is currently Executive Chairman of Kerogen Exploration (Houston-New York, North American oil/gas exploration) and on the Board of Directors of Badlands Energy (a Uinta Basin conventional fracking company located in Utah). He serves as a senior energy advisor to investment funds (Carlyle/Riverstone, ITI Energy, Silver Point Capital, TPG) and the Boston Consulting Group. He also provides 'hands-on' management of technical-commercial ventures with McIntyre Partners of London. He has sourced many highly successful financial transactions for these firms and is an independent director or advisor for several of his clients’ portfolio investments.

 

Alex has extensive commercial, operational and management experience in the upstream/midstream oil and gas (LNG/Pipelines) and power sectors and private equity/venture capital investments. Over a 21 year period, he held a succession of senior executive positions at the Royal Dutch Shell group as an Executive Committee Member, primarily in the exploration and production area and latterly as Executive Director and ExecVP of Shell International Gas and Power for Eastern/Central Europe, Russia, Africa and South America. During this time, he was responsible for numerous major commercial field developments, drilling for oil and gas, major acquisitions, capital projects (pipelines, LNG-Power generation in the billions), strategic initiatives, and global reorganization of the Exploration/Production and Gas & Power sectors of Shell. He resided in Damascus and led Shell’s technical and commercial development of Oil & Gas assets there bringing production to 430,000 BOEPD on plateau for 10 years. He was responsible for the successful construction, financing and start-up of multi-billion USD Nigeria LNG trains 1-2. He was also responsible to the CEO for all oil & gas production for the North Sea (UK, Norway, Netherlands) and continental Europe for Shell. Afterwards, he was President of Azurix International (national water infrastructure business for Asia, Europe and Africa).

 

Dr. Kulpecz earned a PhD from Imperial College of Science and Medicine, Univ. of London in stochastic modeling and subsurface connectivity, an MBA (Henley Business School, UK, Shell Exec Program), and BA- MSc degrees in Geology from Rutgers University.

 

Dr. Kulpecz is based in Houston, New York and London.
